أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُّنتَصِرٌ ﴿44﴾
Or say they: "We are a great multitude, victorious?"

(Ayah 44) Here {اَمْ يَقُوْلُوْنَ نَحْنُ جَمِيْعٌ مُّنْتَصِرٌ:} is not in the sense of “all,” but with the addition of “yaa,” it is in the sense of {’’ جَمِيْعٌ ‘‘ ’’كُلٌّ‘‘}, meaning a strong group. {’’جَمْعٌ‘‘} means to protect from the oppressor, to take revenge from the enemy, to prevail over the opponent. Or their statement is that neither are we better than the former ones, nor is there anything in any book that ensures our safety from punishment, but we are a strong group who can protect ourselves, take revenge, and prevail over the opponent, so we have nothing to fear. There is iltifat (a rhetorical shift) in the verse, meaning in the previous verse {’’اِنْتَصَرَ يَنْتَصِرُ اِنْتِصَارًا‘‘} the address is in the second person, and here, with the third person pronoun, they are mentioned; the purpose is to belittle them, as such boasters are not worthy of being addressed.
