Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 51,50) {وَ اَنَّهٗۤ اَهْلَكَ عَادًا الْاُوْلٰى … :} "‘Aad al-Oola" refers to the ancient people to whom Hud (peace be upon him) was sent. They are called "Oola" either because of their ancientness, as it is said: « وَ لَا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الْاُوْلٰى » [ الأحزاب : ۳۳ ] "Do not display your adornment as the display of the former times of ignorance," or because those who survived when the punishment came upon them, their descendants were called ‘Aad al-Ukhra or ‘Aad Thaniyah. According to most, the people of Hud (peace be upon him) are called ‘Aad al-Oola, and the people of Salih (peace be upon him), the Thamud, are called ‘Aad al-Ukhra. For details of the destruction of the people of ‘Aad, see Surah Al-A’raf (72), Al-Haqqah (6 to 8), Ha Mim Sajdah (15, 16), Al-Qamar (18 to 20), Adh-Dhariyat (41, 42), and Al-Ahqaf (21 to 25); and for the introduction of the people of Thamud, see Surah Al-A’raf (73 to 79).
