Surah At-Tur (52) — Ayah 46
يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ ﴿46﴾

(1) «وان للذین ظلموا عذاباً دون ذلک»: That is, for the disbelievers, there is also a punishment before the Day of Resurrection. By this are meant the punishments that come in this world. See the commentary of Surah Tawbah [١٢٦] and Surah Sajdah [٢١].
(2) « ولکن اکثرھم لایعلمون»: That is, in the world, various calamities and punishments come upon them, the purpose of which is that they may turn back and repent, but most of them do not know why these calamities have come upon them. Therefore, as soon as the grip loosens, they become as disobedient as before, or even more so, and neither consider the punishment as punishment nor as a warning. Rather, they find some scientific reason for the punishment and some excuse to persist in their disobedience. Some scholars have included, in the words «ون ذلک» "before the Day of Resurrection," not only the worldly punishments but also the blows of the angels of death and the punishment of the grave.
