Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 37) ➊ {اَمْعِنْدَهُمْخَزَآىِٕنُرَبِّكَ … :} This is the answer to the objection of the disbelievers that why was only you (ﷺ) chosen as the Messenger, why was not any of the chiefs of Makkah or Taif selected for prophethood? It is said, the decision of whom to send as a Messenger is the prerogative of the Owner. Now, if these people deny the Messenger appointed by Allah, it means either they are the owners of the treasures of your Lord, giving to whom they wish and withholding from whom they wish, or that the Owner is indeed Allah but He is under their command. Now let them themselves state which of these two claims is theirs? See also Surah Sad (8 to 10) and Surah Az-Zukhruf (31, 32). In summary, the disbelievers have no rational argument for denying the prophethood of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
➋ The interpretation of the verse can also be that these people do not worship the One Lord alone and not accept Muhammad (ﷺ) as the Messenger because they themselves are the owners of the treasures of your Lord, or that He is under their command, so they are the masters of their own will, doing whatever they please? Obviously, this is not the case at all.
