Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). (Ayah 58) ➊ By bringing the separating pronoun in { اِنَّاللّٰهَهُوَالرَّزَّاقُذُوالْقُوَّةِالْمَتِيْنُ: ’’ هُوَ ‘‘} and by bringing the definite article "al" on the predicate in {’’ الرَّزَّاقُ ‘‘}, exclusivity is created in the speech that the Provider is only Allah, and no one else. {’’ الرَّزَّاقُ ‘‘} is an intensive form, meaning the One who gives sustenance without limit. {’’ اِنَّ ‘‘} is used for reasoning (to state the cause), in which the reason for the previous statement is explained. That is, I do not want any kind of sustenance from jinn and mankind, nor do I want them to feed Me, because the only Provider is Me; there is no provider besides Me, and I am free from eating, drinking, and every need, so why would I intend sustenance or feeding from jinn and mankind? Elsewhere He said: «قُلْاَغَيْرَاللّٰهِاَتَّخِذُوَلِيًّافَاطِرِالسَّمٰوٰتِوَالْاَرْضِوَهُوَيُطْعِمُوَلَايُطْعَمُ »[الأنعام : ۱۴ ] "Say, shall I take any protector other than Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, while He feeds and is not fed?"
➋ The context required that it be said: {’’إِنِّيْأَنَاالرَّزَّاقُذُوالْقُوَّةِالْمَتِيْنُ‘‘} (that I do not intend any sustenance from them, nor do I intend that they feed Me) because I am indeed the One who gives sustenance without limit, the Powerful, the Strong. It is also established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to recite it in this way, as Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me to recite it like this: [ إِنِّيْأَنَاالرَّزَّاقُذُوالْقُوَّةِالْمَتِيْنُ ][ أبو داوٗد، الحروف والقرائات ، باب : ۳۹۹۳۔ ترمذي : ۲۹۴۰، و صححہ الألباني ] In the Imam's Mushaf, it is {’’ اِنَّاللّٰهَهُوَالرَّزَّاقُ ‘‘} and the Mutawatir recitation is this. By saying {’’ اِنَّاللّٰهَهُوَالرَّزَّاقُ ‘‘} instead of {’’إِنِّيْأَنَاالرَّزَّاقُ‘‘}, the intention is to express all the attributes that come in the word {’’ اللّٰهَ ‘‘}, such as His majesty, His greatness, and His grandeur.
➌ The word { ذُوالْقُوَّةِالْمَتِيْنُ: ’’ ذُوالْقُوَّةِ ‘‘ ’’ ذُو ‘‘} is used for being the owner of something important, for example, {’’ذُوْمَالٍ‘‘} and {’’ ذُوْشَرَفٍ‘‘}, meaning the owner of all power. {’’ الْمَتِيْنُ ‘‘} means extremely strong, whom no one can turn away from His will nor can anyone oppose Him.
