Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 44,43) {وَفِيْثَمُوْدَاِذْقِيْلَلَهُمْتَمَتَّعُوْاحَتّٰىحِيْنٍ … :} There are two opinions regarding its exegesis. One is that when they hamstrung the she-camel, it was said to them: "Enjoy yourselves for three days, after which the punishment will come upon you." During these three days, they could have repented, but they persisted in their rebellion and in denying Salih (peace be upon him). So, on the third day, before their very eyes, a dreadful scream was raised (Hud: 67), accompanied by a terrifying thunderbolt, which incinerated them, and they were annihilated as if they had never existed at all. It is said: «كَاَنْلَّمْيَغْنَوْافِيْهَا »[ ھود : ۶۸ ] "As if they had never dwelt among them." The second opinion is that this {’’ تَمَتَّعُوْاحَتّٰىحِيْنٍ ‘‘} ("Enjoy yourselves for a while") refers to the address of Salih (peace be upon him) at the time he was sent to them, that in this world you have respite until death, so enjoy yourselves, but do not harm this she-camel, otherwise punishment will come upon you. But they rebelled against the command of their Lord and hamstrung the she-camel, so the thunderbolt seized them. The words of the verse accommodate both meanings, and both can be intended simultaneously.
