(Ayah 11) {الَّذِيْنَ هُمْ فِيْ غَمْرَةٍ سَاهُوْنَ:’’غَمَرَ يَغْمُرُ غَمْرًا ‘‘} (n) {’’ اَلْمَاءُ ‘‘} means "for water to cover something," therefore deep water is called {’’غَمْرَةٌ‘‘}. Hardship and death, as well as ignorance and heedlessness, are also called {’’غَمْرَةٌ‘‘}, because they too cover a person's intellect. The tanween on {’’ غَمْرَةٍ ‘‘} is for magnification, so it has been translated as "great heedlessness." {’’ سَاهُوْنَ ‘‘ ’’سَهَا يَسْهُوْ سَهْوًا‘‘} (n) is the plural of the active participle, meaning "those who forget." That is, they denied the Hereafter merely on the basis of conjecture and assumption, due to which they have become deeply heedless of preparing for it and have forgotten their dreadful end.
