The Table · Medinan · Juz 6 · Page 119

Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) "O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! You have nothing (as regards guidance) till you act according to the Taurât (Torah), the Injeel (Gospel), and what has (now) been sent down to you from your Lord (the Qur’ân)." Verily, that which has been sent down to you (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) from your Lord increases in most of them (their) obstinate rebellion and disbelief. So be not sorrowful over the people who disbelieve.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 68) ➊ {قُلْ يٰۤاَهْلَ الْكِتٰبِ لَسْتُمْ عَلٰى شَيْءٍ ……:} To establish the Torah and the Gospel means to fulfill the covenants taken from them in these books, to acknowledge the prophethood of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) according to the evidences present in these books regarding his advent, and to act upon the commands and limits of the Torah and the Gospel. The meaning is that if you do not act fully upon these books, then you have neither any status nor any religiosity. (Ibn Kathir) The same applies to Muslims: if they do not act fully upon the Quran, then they will have neither any status nor any religiosity.
See the commentary of verse (64) of this Surah, note (3).
Because whatever they are doing, they are only harming themselves and will bear the consequences themselves.
