Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Say: "O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Do you criticize us for no other reason than that we believe in Allâh, and in (the revelation) which has been sent down to us and in that which has been sent down before (us), and that most of you are Fâsiqûn [rebellious and disobedient (to Allâh)]?"

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 59)➊ {وَمَاۤاُنْزِلَمِنْقَبْلُ:} That is, upon the previous scriptures, such as the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, etc. The meaning is that you know that our faith is in those very things which you also consider to be correct, so then for what reason do you take revenge on us and what is our fault for which you hold enmity against us?
➋ {وَاَنَّاَكْثَرَكُمْفٰسِقُوْنَ:} The real matter is that most of you are fasiq (disobedient) and wicked, and all your religious monopoly is based on group prejudice and false kinds of traditions, therefore you do not like to see any good in anyone other than yourselves. The narration of a fasiq is not even acceptable, because he has no restraint from lying, so all your traditions and actions against Islam are worthless. Observe the justice of the Noble Qur’an, that despite intense anger, it did not call all of them fasiq, but only most of them. Because among them there were some who were not fasiq, and these were the people who, upon hearing the call of Islam, accepted faith.
