O you who believe! Take not as Auliyâ’ (protectors and helpers) those who take your religion as a mockery and fun from among those who received the Scripture (Jews and Christians) before you, and nor from among the disbelievers; and fear Allâh if you indeed are true believers.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 57) {يٰۤاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا الَّذِيْنَ اتَّخَذُوْا دِيْنَكُمْ......:} In the above verses, specifically friendship with Jews and Christians was forbidden; now here, friendship with all disbelievers is forbidden. According to this verse, it is also not permissible to have heartfelt friendship with those irreligious people and people of innovation who have made religion a mockery and a game—sometimes they mock the beard, sometimes the Sunnah clothing, and sometimes the limits set by Allah Almighty. Similarly, they mock prayer performed according to the Sunnah, and if someone does not participate in the customs of disbelievers, especially Hindus, at the time of birth, marriage, or death, they mock him as well. So, when the same characteristic is found in them as is found in the People of the Book and disbelievers, then their ruling should also be the same as that of the People of the Book and disbelievers.
