Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 114)➊ {قَالَ عِيْسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ اللّٰهُمَّ رَبَّنَاۤ …:} This is a prayer made with utmost humility, in which {’’ اللّٰهُمَّ ‘‘} (O Allah!) is combined with {’’ رَبَّنَاۤ ‘‘} (O our Sustainer!). From this, it is evident that Isa (Jesus) عليه السلام was neither Allah, nor the son of Allah, nor one possessing Allah’s authority. His disciples also did not believe in any of these things; otherwise, why would they ask Isa عليه السلام to pray, and why would Isa عليه السلام himself pray with such humility? Rather, his disciples would have demanded the table-spread from him, and he would have fulfilled it himself.

{تَكُوْنُ لَنَا عِيْدًا لِّاَوَّلِنَا وَ اٰخِرِنَا:} The scholars have deduced from this that the table-spread descended on a Sunday, because that is the festival of the Christians, and Saturday is the festival of the Jews, even though the festival day from Allah was Friday. But the Jews and Christians differed regarding the original day, and Allah granted the Muslims the ability to accept Friday without any objection, in accordance with the command of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). [ دیکھیے مسلم، الجمعۃ، باب ھدایۃ ھذہ الأمۃ… : ۸۵۶ ] The word ‘Eid’ is derived from {’’عَادَ يَعُوْدُ ‘‘}, meaning a happiness that returns again and again; it can be annual or weekly. Muslims have two annual Eids and one weekly Eid, which is Friday. Other than these, no Eid is established from the Qur’an and Sunnah, such as Eid Milad or Eid Ghadir, etc.; all these are self-invented and innovations.

{وَ اٰيَةً مِّنْكَ:} That is, establish proof for Your oneness and the truth of Your Prophet’s messengership. (Kabir)

{وَ اَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرّٰزِقِيْنَ:} Because in reality, You alone are the Provider; there is not a single provider besides You. All eat only what You have given, or give it to others.
