۞ يَوْمَ يَجْمَعُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَيَقُولُ مَاذَآ أُجِبْتُمْ ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَا عِلْمَ لَنَآ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ عَلَّـٰمُ ٱلْغُيُوبِ ﴿109﴾
On the Day when Allâh will gather the Messengers together and say to them: "What was the response you received (from men to your teaching)?" They will say: "We have no knowledge, verily, only You are the All-Knower of all that is hidden (or unseen)."
۞ يَوْمَ yawma (The) day
يَجْمَعُ yajmaʿu will (be) gathered
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu (by) Allah
ٱلرُّسُلَ l-rusula the Messengers
فَيَقُولُ fayaqūlu and He will say
مَاذَآ mādhā What
أُجِبْتُمْ ۖ ujib'tum was (the) response you received
قَالُوا۟ qālū They said
لَا (There is) no
عِلْمَ ʿil'ma knowledge
لَنَآ ۖ lanā for us
إِنَّكَ innaka Indeed You
أَنتَ anta You
عَلَّـٰمُ ʿallāmu (are the) Knower
ٱلْغُيُوبِ l-ghuyūbi (of) the unseen

(Ayah 109) ➊ {يَوْمَ يَجْمَعُ اللّٰهُ الرُّسُلَ … :} After mentioning some matters and rulings of religion, now some conditions of the Day of Resurrection are described, so that those who disobey may be warned. (Kabir) The meaning is that on the Day of Resurrection, the prophets will be gathered and asked: to what extent did your nations accept the invitation you gave? This question to the prophets will, in reality, be for the purpose of rebuking and reproaching the nations. (Ibn Kathir) As in the verse: «وَ اِذَا الْمَوْءٗدَةُ سُىِٕلَتْ» "When the girl who was buried alive will be asked," this question will, in reality, be to disgrace those who buried her alive.

{قَالُوْا لَا عِلْمَ لَنَا …:} They will say that we have no knowledge. Here, the question arises that the prophets did have some knowledge of their nations' responses to their own messengers, because their lives were spent among them, so how can they say that we have no knowledge? The answer to this question is present in «اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوْبِ », that is, we are only aware of their outward responses, which they gave during our lifetimes, and the prophets will testify only regarding that. (See Nisa: 41; Baqarah: 143) As for whether they truly accepted our invitation in their hearts or not, and to what extent our nations remained steadfast on this invitation after us, no one knows this except You, because You alone are fully aware of hidden matters, so there is, by the grace of Allah, no contradiction in the verses. (Kabir) Shah Abdul Qadir (may Allah have mercy on him) says that this was recited to those who are proud of the intercession of the prophets, so that they may know that before Allah Almighty, no one testifies about anyone's heart, and no one intercedes for anyone.
