Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 37){ اِنْ يَّسْـَٔلْكُمُوْهَا فَيُحْفِكُمْ تَبْخَلُوْا … : ’’ فَيُحْفِكُمْ ‘‘ ’’ أَحْفٰي يُحْفِيْ إِحْفَاءً ‘‘} (af‘aal) means to take something completely by gathering it up, or to demand something insistently. That is, if Allah Almighty were to ask you for all your wealth, it would be His right, because all of it is given by Him. But it is His grace that He does not ask you for all your wealth in its entirety, because if He were to insistently demand all of it, you would become stingy, and your stinginess would reveal all the grudges that arise in your hearts due to the demand for all your wealth, because wealth is beloved to you, and when someone’s beloved is demanded from him, resentment against the demander arises in his heart. Therefore, Allah Almighty has only demanded from you as much as would not put you in such a severe trial, and if there is any hypocrisy or resentment against Islam and Muslims in any heart, it remains covered. The purpose of the verses is to encourage spending in the way of Allah and to give the reassurance that you are not being asked for anything difficult that you cannot fulfill, so spend your wealth in jihad with a cheerful heart.
