They are those against whom the Word (of torment) is justified among the previous generations of jinn and mankind that have passed away. Verily, they are ever the losers.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 18) ➊ { اُولٰٓىِٕكَ الَّذِيْنَ حَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقَوْلُ:} That is, those who are disrespectful to parents and deniers of the Hereafter are the very people upon whom the word of Allah has been fulfilled, which He had previously declared: « لَاَمْلَـَٔنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَ النَّاسِ اَجْمَعِيْنَ » [ ھود:۱۱۹] “That I will surely fill Hell with jinn and humans all together.” See also Surah Al-A’raf (18).

{ فِيْۤ اُمَمٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ مِّنَ الْجِنِّ وَ الْاِنْسِ:} That is, by joining those groups of jinn and humans who, among the people of Hell, have passed before them. The company of these worst people itself is the worst punishment.

{ اِنَّهُمْ كَانُوْا خٰسِرِيْنَ: ’’إِنَّ‘‘} The word 'Inna' is for reasoning, meaning their end happened because the capital of life that was given to them in the world for preparation for the Hereafter, instead of benefiting from it, they lost even the principal amount, and this is the real loss that they incurred.
