Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 37) ➊ {وَلَهُالْكِبْرِيَآءُفِيالسَّمٰوٰتِوَالْاَرْضِ:} The purpose of bringing this sentence is that He has instructed and emphasized His servants to praise Him for their own benefit; otherwise, He Himself is neither in need of their praise, nor does He require it, nor does their praise add anything to His majesty, because He alone has always been and will always be the sole possessor of all greatness and grandeur. What addition can anyone make to His greatness? ➋ { وَهُوَالْعَزِيْزُالْحَكِيْمُ:} These two attributes are mentioned as evidence that He alone is the possessor of all greatness and grandeur, because He alone is the Mighty and He alone is the Wise (the definite article on the predicate creates the meaning of exclusivity), no one else is mighty nor wise, so what grandeur would there be in anyone else? In {’’ الْعَزِيْزُ ‘‘} every form of power and authority is included, and in {’’ الْحَكِيْمُ ‘‘} every meaning of knowledge is included. He is {’’ الْعَزِيْزُ ‘‘} (the Dominant over all), He can do whatever He wills, there is nothing He cannot do, and there is no being that can prevent Him, and He is {’’ الْحَكِيْمُ ‘‘} (the Perfectly Wise), whatever He does is pure wisdom and absolutely correct, no one can find fault in it nor can anyone point out anything better than it.
