Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 36) ➊ {فَلِلّٰهِالْحَمْدُرَبِّالسَّمٰوٰتِوَرَبِّالْاَرْضِ … : } This is the summary and result of all the matters that have been mentioned earlier in this Surah. These include His being the sole Creator of the universe, subjugating it, running it with the highest order and justice, bestowing Muslims with His favors in this world and the Hereafter, condemning the disbelievers for turning away from the signs of Allah, refuting their disbelief and polytheism with very strong arguments, and warning them of a very evil end in the Hereafter. All these verses and the facts mentioned in them are proof that Allah alone possesses all virtues and attributes of perfection, and He alone is the bestower of all blessings. This has been stated as a conclusion. By bringing {’’ فَلِلّٰهِالْحَمْدُ ‘‘} before {’’ لِلّٰهِ‘‘}, exclusivity has been created in the speech, and with the "fa" the connection of the speech with the entire previous Surah has been established, that when all that has been proven which was mentioned earlier, then it is established that all praise is exclusively for Allah. Now, three meanings can be intended from {’’ فَلِلّٰهِالْحَمْدُ ‘‘}: first, that it is being informed that all praise is only for Allah; second, that it is being commanded that you should praise Allah alone; and third, that it is the initiation of praise, meaning Allah Himself is praising Himself, which He certainly deserves and He alone deserves. As a summary and result of the previous discourse, the example of this verse is also this verse: « فَقُطِعَدَابِرُالْقَوْمِالَّذِيْنَظَلَمُوْاوَالْحَمْدُلِلّٰهِرَبِّالْعٰلَمِيْنَ»[ الأنعام : ۴۵ ] "So the root of those people who did wrong was cut off, and all praise is for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds." (Ibn Ashur)
➋ {رَبِّالسَّمٰوٰتِ …:} Here, {’’رَبِّالسَّمَاوَاتِوَالْأَرْضِ‘‘} could also have been said, but to highlight the importance of being Lord in deserving praise, it was repeated three times: « رَبِّالسَّمٰوٰتِوَرَبِّالْاَرْضِرَبِّالْعٰلَمِيْنَ» And the reality is that Allah's attribute of Lordship is the greatest reason for Him deserving our praise, because our existence, our survival, every moment of our life, and every blessing we receive in this world and the Hereafter is the result of this; if this did not exist, we would not even exist. That is why the beginning of the greatest and first Surah of the Quran was made with this: « اَلْحَمْدُلِلّٰهِرَبِّالْعٰلَمِيْنَ »[ الفاتحۃ : ۱ ] "All praise is for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds." The ending of Surah Saffat and the Surah under commentary was also made with this, and regarding the people of Paradise it was mentioned: « دَعْوٰىهُمْفِيْهَاسُبْحٰنَكَاللّٰهُمَّوَتَحِيَّتُهُمْفِيْهَاسَلٰمٌوَاٰخِرُدَعْوٰىهُمْاَنِالْحَمْدُلِلّٰهِرَبِّالْعٰلَمِيْنَ»[ یونس:۱۰] "Their call therein will be, 'Glory be to You, O Allah!' and their greeting therein will be, 'Peace,' and the conclusion of their call will be, 'All praise is for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.'"
