سُوْرَةُ الْجَاثِيَةِ
Surah Al-Jaathiya (45) — Ayah 12
۞ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى سَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلْبَحْرَ لِتَجْرِىَ ٱلْفُلْكُ فِيهِ بِأَمْرِهِۦ وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ ﴿12﴾

Allâh, it is He Who has subjected to you the sea, that ships may sail through it by His Command, and that you may seek of His Bounty, and that you may be thankful.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. (Ayah 12) ➊ { اَللّٰهُ الَّذِيْ سَخَّرَ لَكُمُ الْبَحْرَ …:} In the previous verses, the creation of the universe and many things within it were mentioned in the sense that all these indicate the existence of Allah, His oneness, and the Hereafter. From here, the subjugation of the sea and other things are mentioned in the sense that all these are blessings of Allah upon mankind, for which gratitude is obligatory upon them. However, they have abandoned Him and have made such beings their provider, helper, remover of difficulties, and fulfiller of needs, who have no share in these blessings, and thus, instead of thanking the One who grants all these blessings, they are openly denying and being ungrateful for His blessings.
➋ The word {’’ اَللّٰهُ ‘‘} is the subject and {’’ الَّذِيْ سَخَّرَ لَكُمُ الْبَحْرَ …‘‘} is its predicate, which is definite; this creates exclusivity in the statement that it is Allah alone who has subjugated the sea for your sake.
