Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 1 to 3) ➊ {حٰمٓ (1) وَالْكِتٰبِالْمُبِيْنِ (2) اِنَّاۤاَنْزَلْنٰهُ:} Allah Almighty has sworn by this clear Book and said that indeed We alone have revealed it. That is, this clear Book itself bears witness that it is not the composition of Muhammad (peace be upon him) or anyone else, but We alone have revealed it. If anyone claims it is the composition of a created being, then let him produce a surah like it.
➋ { فِيْلَيْلَةٍمُّبٰرَكَةٍ:} While describing the greatness of the Book, it is said that the night in which We revealed it is full of goodness and blessings. Elsewhere, Allah Almighty Himself has stated that the blessed night is Laylat al-Qadr, as in Surah al-Qadr: « اِنَّاۤاَنْزَلْنٰهُفِيْلَيْلَةِالْقَدْرِ»[ القدر : ۱ ] "Indeed, We sent it down during the Night of Decree." And it is in the month of Ramadan, as He said: «شَهْرُرَمَضَانَالَّذِيْۤاُنْزِلَفِيْهِالْقُرْاٰنُ »[ البقرۃ : ۱۸۵ ] "The month of Ramadan is that in which the Qur'an was revealed." The revelation of the Book refers to the beginning of its revelation, which took place in the cave of Hira on that blessed night in Ramadan. Some people say that the night is the night of mid-Sha'ban, but this is completely wrong, because it is in clear contradiction to the Noble Qur'an. Qadi Abu Bakr ibn al-Arabi has written in "Ahkam al-Qur'an" that there is no reliable narration regarding the night of mid-Sha'ban, neither about its virtue nor about destinies being decided on that night. The commentator Shanqiti said: "Other researchers besides Ibn al-Arabi have also concluded that such narrations have no basis, nor is any of their chains Sahih."
➌ For the details of the blessings of {’’ لَيْلَةٍمُّبٰرَكَةٍ ‘‘}, see Surah al-Qadr.
➍ {اِنَّاكُنَّامُنْذِرِيْنَ:} That is, We revealed this Book so that the servants may be informed of good and bad deeds and warned of their evil end in case of disobedience, so that they may have no excuse left that they were not warned. Here, only warning is mentioned, not glad tidings, because this is the case with most people. However, within the warning, there is also glad tidings for the one who takes heed.
