And not an Ayâh (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow , and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allâh’s religion (Islâmic Monotheism)].

(Ayah 48) {وَمَانُرِيْهِمْمِّنْاٰيَةٍاِلَّاهِيَاَكْبَرُمِنْاُخْتِهَا … :} When Pharaoh and his chiefs called Musa (peace be upon him) a magician and declared his miracles to be magic, they gathered all their expert magicians to confront him, and despite a clear defeat, they persisted in their disbelief. So Allah imposed famine upon them. At this, they requested Musa (peace be upon him) to pray for the removal of the punishment and promised to believe and to grant freedom to the Children of Israel if the famine was lifted. When the famine was removed, they broke their promise. Upon this, Allah sent upon them, one after another, several punishments, each of which was a greater sign than the previous one, and the purpose of these punishments was that they might turn away from disbelief and arrogance and accept faith.
