And verily, they (Satans / devils) hinder them from the Path (of Allâh), but they think that they are guided aright!
وَإِنَّهُمْ wa-innahum And indeed, they
لَيَصُدُّونَهُمْ layaṣuddūnahum surely, turn them

وَيَحْسَبُونَ wayaḥsabūna and they think
أَنَّهُم annahum that they
مُّهْتَدُونَ muh'tadūna (are) guided

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 37) ➊ In {وَ اِنَّهُمْ لَيَصُدُّوْنَهُمْ عَنِ السَّبِيْلِ: ’’ اِنَّهُمْ ‘‘}, the pronoun refers to the devils, and in {’’ لَيَصُدُّوْنَهُمْ ‘‘}, the pronoun refers to those who are heedless of the remembrance of {’’هُمْ‘‘} the Most Merciful, even though in the previous verse both were mentioned with a singular pronoun. However, even there, the word {’’ مَنْ ‘‘}, despite being singular, is plural in meaning. That is, whoever deliberately neglects His remembrance, some devil clings to them, whether it is a human devil or a descendant of Iblis. They make sins appear attractive to them, arouse their carnal desires, and keep them busy in disobeying Allah, until they completely prevent them from the straight path and ultimately leave them in Hell.

{ وَ يَحْسَبُوْنَ اَنَّهُمْ مُّهْتَدُوْنَ:} That is, those heedless ones who have stopped from the right path, despite being completely misguided, think about themselves that they are on the straight path. It can also mean that they think about their misguiding devils that they are on the straight path, so they blindly keep following them.
