وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَٰهِيمُ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦٓ إِنَّنِى بَرَآءٌ مِّمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ ﴿26﴾
And (remember) when Ibrâhîm (Abraham) said to his father and his people: "Verily, I am innocent of what you worship,
وَإِذْ wa-idh And when
قَالَ qāla Ibrahim Said
إِبْرَٰهِيمُ ib'rāhīmu Ibrahim Said
لِأَبِيهِ li-abīhi to his father
وَقَوْمِهِۦٓ waqawmihi and his people
إِنَّنِى innanī Indeed, I (am)
بَرَآءٌۭ barāon disassociated
مِّمَّا mimmā from what
تَعْبُدُونَ taʿbudūna you worship

(Ayah 27,26) ➊ {وَ اِذْ قَالَ اِبْرٰهِيْمُ لِاَبِيْهِ وَ قَوْمِهٖۤ … :} Here, the relevance of the story of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) is that the Quraysh and the people of Arabia are being told that your leader and forefather abandoned his father's path upon seeing it was wrong, so you should do the same.
{اِنَّنِيْ بَرَآءٌ مِّمَّا تَعْبُدُوْنَ … : ’’ بَرَآءٌ ‘‘} is a verbal noun (masdar), and the same word is used for singular, dual, plural, masculine, and feminine, which is in the meaning of {’’ بَرِيْءٌ‘‘}, but it is more emphatic. For example, {’’ زَيْدٌ عَادِلٌ ‘‘} does not have the emphasis that {’’ زَيْدٌ عَدْلٌ ‘‘} (Zaid is so just that he is the embodiment of justice) has. The meaning is that Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said to his father and his people that I am completely disassociated from all your deities, with heart, tongue, and action. In short, I declare my disassociation from them in every way, except for the One who created me.
{اِلَّا الَّذِيْ فَطَرَنِيْ:} In this statement, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) also presented the argument for worshiping Allah alone. That is: « اِلَّا الَّذِيْ فَطَرَنِيْ» "Who created me." That is, worship is the right only of the One who is the Creator. Here, the declaration of disassociation by Ibrahim (peace be upon him) from all deities except Allah is mentioned; in other places, along with disassociation, enmity towards them is also declared, and almost everywhere, the attribute of Allah being the Creator is especially mentioned. (See Ash-Shu'ara: 75–78; Al-An'am: 78, 79) In Surah Al-Mumtahanah (4), along with disassociation and denial of false deities, there is also an open declaration of hatred and enmity towards their worshipers, until they believe in Allah alone.
{ فَاِنَّهٗ سَيَهْدِيْنِ:} In Surah Ash-Shu'ara, the statement of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) is: « الَّذِيْ خَلَقَنِيْ فَهُوَ يَهْدِيْنِ» [ الشعراء : ۷۸ ] "He who created me, then He guides me (and makes me walk upon it)." Here it is said: «فَاِنَّهٗ سَيَهْدِيْنِ » that is, the One who created me, in the future also He alone will guide me on the straight path and make me reach the destination.
