Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 18) ➊ { اَوَمَنْيُّنَشَّؤُافِيالْحِلْيَةِ … :} In this verse, the inferiority of girls compared to boys is mentioned for two reasons: one is that the beauty of women depends on adornment such as jewelry, which is why from childhood their upbringing is done with jewelry, whereas men do not need this, their beauty is complete as it is. The second is that men are strong, courageous, and brave, who step forward to face the enemy, whereas women are gentle, delicate, and weak, whose bravery is that when they are helpless, they show it by crying. It is said, do you attribute such a weak gender as the offspring of Allah, and prefer boys, who are men of the field and possess determination and resolve, for yourselves. ➋ From this verse, the permissibility of jewelry for women is established, which is why wearing gold and silk has been made lawful for them, while it is forbidden for men, and also that men must avoid adopting feminine adornment. Both rulings are well-known in the ahadith.
