سُوْرَةُ الزُّخْرُفِ
Surah Az-Zukhruf (43) — Ayah 12
وَٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ كُلَّهَا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْفُلْكِ وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ مَا تَرْكَبُونَ ﴿12﴾

And Who has created all the pairs and has appointed for you ships and cattle on which you ride:

(Ayah 12) ➊ For the explanation of { وَ الَّذِيْ خَلَقَ الْاَزْوَاجَ كُلَّهَا:}, see the commentary of Surah Ya-Sin, verse (36).
➋ Before this, the mention was made of making paths in the earth through which people travel to different places for their needs. Now this blessing is reminded that for traveling in cities, fields, deserts, and mountains, Allah Almighty created livestock, and for near and far journeys in the seas, He made boats and large ships. Baqa'i has also mentioned a relevance between the mention of livestock and ships with {’’ خَلَقَ الْاَزْوَاجَ كُلَّهَا ‘‘}, that from {’’ الْاَزْوَاجَ ‘‘} the mind shifts towards various pairs, such as male and female. Therefore, to clarify that by {’’ الْاَزْوَاجَ ‘‘} is not meant only pairs, but all those kinds whose nature is related, compatible, or opposed to each other, such as earth and sky, night and day, good and evil, and Paradise and Hell, etc., Allah Almighty mentioned livestock and ships, that the structure of both is completely different from each other, but the purpose of both is one {’’ مَا تَرْكَبُوْنَ ‘‘} that is, to provide means of transportation for humans on land and sea.
