Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 9) ➊ { قُلْاَىِٕنَّكُمْلَتَكْفُرُوْنَ … :} After mentioning the disbelievers’ denial of the Hereafter, Allah Almighty began mentioning the proofs of His power over it, rather, His power over everything, and as evidence, He mentioned the creation of those things which were before their eyes and whose Creator they themselves acknowledged to be Allah Almighty. The statement begins with the interrogative hamzah, {’’إِنَّ‘‘} and the emphasis of the lam. In this, there is astonishment and rebuke at their shirk, and also an expression that indeed you commit the despicable act of shirk, whereas no intelligent person can even imagine that a human would disbelieve in the Creator of the heavens and the earth and associate partners with Him. Along with astonishment and rebuke, the history of the creation of the heavens and the earth is also mentioned. The translation has been done keeping in view both the interrogative hamzah and the two letters of emphasis: “Say, do you indeed truly disbelieve in Him…” ➋ { لَتَكْفُرُوْنَ:} Here, instead of using the past tense {’’ كَفَرْتُمْ ‘‘} (you disbelieved), the present tense verb {’’ لَتَكْفُرُوْنَ ‘‘} is used because it is not just that you disbelieved before, whatever you did before, but even after seeing and hearing so many proofs, you do not refrain from disbelief, rather you continue to disbelieve. ➌ { بِالَّذِيْخَلَقَالْاَرْضَفِيْيَوْمَيْنِ:} When He created the heavens and the earth, at that time the sun did not even exist from which day and night come into being, so what is meant by two days? For this, see the commentary of Surah Al-A’raf, Ayah (54).
