Surah Fussilat (41) — Ayah 29

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ رَبَّنَآ أَرِنَا ٱلَّذَيْنِ أَضَلَّانَا مِنَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ نَجْعَلْهُمَا تَحْتَ أَقْدَامِنَا لِيَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَ ﴿29﴾
And those who disbelieve will say: "Our Lord! Show us those among jinn and men who led us astray: that we may crush them under our feet so that they become the lowest."
وَقَالَ waqāla And (will) say
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who
كَفَرُوا۟ kafarū disbelieve
رَبَّنَآ rabbanā Our Lord
أَرِنَا arinā Show us
ٱلَّذَيْنِ alladhayni those who
أَضَلَّانَا aḍallānā misled us
مِنَ mina of
ٱلْجِنِّ l-jini the jinn
وَٱلْإِنسِ wal-insi and the men
نَجْعَلْهُمَا najʿalhumā (so) we may put them
تَحْتَ taḥta under
أَقْدَامِنَا aqdāminā our feet
لِيَكُونَا liyakūnā that they be
مِنَ mina of
ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَ l-asfalīna the lowest

(Ayah 29) ➊ { وَ قَالَ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا رَبَّنَاۤ اَرِنَا …:} Previously, in Ayah (25): « وَ قَيَّضْنَا لَهُمْ قُرَنَآءَ …», it was mentioned that, due to the evil deeds of the disbelievers, those jinn and human companions were imposed upon them who kept making their evil deeds appear attractive to them, until the seal of being inhabitants of Hell was firmly set upon them. Now, the desire of the disbelievers regarding these friends and their request to Allah Almighty is mentioned in Hell.
➋ The disbelievers will say this after entering Hell, but Allah Almighty has used the past tense {’’ قَالَ ‘‘} for it, because the word of Allah is so certain that consider this matter as already done.
➌ On the Day of Resurrection, the inhabitants of Hell will be extremely angry with their misleading friends from among the jinn and human devils, and they will wish that they receive the greatest possible punishment. The literal meaning of {’’ اَرِنَا ‘‘} is "show us," but the intent is: O Lord! Hand them over to us, so that we may trample them under our feet, so that they become among the lowest of people. Every disbeliever, along with being misguided himself, is also guilty of misleading others.
