Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 19) ➊ The word { وَيَوْمَيُحْشَرُاَعْدَآءُاللّٰهِاِلَىالنَّارِ:} is the object of {’’ يَوْمَ ‘‘ ’’اُذْكُرْ‘‘}, which is implied here. Here, there is a question: what is the conjunction of the waw (واؤ) referring to? The answer is that previously, the punishments that befell the deniers who rejected the prophets in this world were mentioned, and now the state that will befall them in the Hereafter is being mentioned. Thus, the sentence reminding of the Hereafter is conjoined to the implied sentence in which the worldly punishments that befell them were reminded. As if the original statement was: {’’ اُذْكُرْأَيَّامَأَعْدَاءِاللّٰهِفِيالدُّنْيَافِيْإِنْزَالِالْعَذَابِلَهُمْوَاذْكُرْيَوْمَيُحْشَرُوْنَإِلَيالنَّارِ۔‘‘} meaning, "Remind them of the punishments that befell the enemies of Allah in this world, and remind them of the Day when they will be gathered towards the Fire." The appropriateness of the waw of conjunction at the beginning of the verses has been excellently explained by the author of {’’ نَظْمُالدُّرَرِفِيْتَنَاسُبِالْآيَاتِوَالسُّوَرِ ‘‘}. For the sake of brevity, I have only mentioned it at a few places; those with taste may benefit from the original book.
➋ The original meaning of { فَهُمْيُوْزَعُوْنَ: ’’ وَزَعَيَزَعُ ‘‘} is to restrain, to arrange. The meaning is that on the Day of Resurrection, the enemies of Allah will be gathered and driven towards the Fire, and they will be gathered in such a way that the ones in front will be prevented from going ahead and the ones behind will be prevented from lagging behind, and then they will be arranged separately, and groups will be formed according to their crimes, and they will be driven towards Hell. See Surah Ha Mim As-Sajdah (19) and Surah As-Saffat (22 to 26).
