Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 25) ➊ {فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ بِالْحَقِّ مِنْ عِنْدِنَا … :} Before the coming of Musa (peace be upon him), Pharaoh used to kill the sons of the Children of Israel and keep their women alive. (See Qasas: 4) Upon the arrival of Musa (peace be upon him), after witnessing his clear miracles and failing in the contest with the magicians, he became so overawed that he stopped the killing of the boys. However, seeing the increasing number of believers day by day, his chiefs incited him to take action against Musa (peace be upon him) and the Children of Israel. Previously, they used to kill all the sons of the Children of Israel; now they said, "Kill the sons of those who believe in Musa (peace be upon him) and keep their women alive." This was not said by Pharaoh himself, but by his courtiers; Pharaoh promised them that he would do so, as mentioned in Surah Al-A'raf: « سَنُقَتِّلُ اَبْنَآءَهُمْ وَ نَسْتَحْيٖ نِسَآءَهُمْ » [ الأعراف : ۱۲۷ ] "We will surely kill their sons in a dreadful manner and keep their women alive." But he was not able to do so.

{ وَ مَا كَيْدُ الْكٰفِرِيْنَ اِلَّا فِيْ ضَلٰلٍ:} From this statement of Allah Almighty, it is clear that he could not fulfill his intention and failed in his plan. The consecutive punishments of famine, shortage of produce, storms, locusts, lice, frogs, and blood did not allow him to catch his breath so that he could do this again, until he and his people were drowned in the sea. See also Surah Al-A'raf (130 to 136).
