Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 88) That is, why have you become two groups regarding these hypocrites? You should be united in your opinion about them. It is narrated from Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out for the Battle of Uhud, some people left him and returned from the way. Regarding them, the Muslims became two groups: one group said, "You should kill them," and the other group was against this. Then this verse was revealed: «{ فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنٰفِقِيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It (Madinah) is Tayyibah; it removes filth just as fire removes the dross from silver." [ بخاری، التفسیر، باب : { فما لکم فی المنافقین… } : ۴۵۸۹ ] Shawkani (may Allah have mercy on him) said, this hadith is the most authentic among the reasons for the revelation of this verse.
