Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 31) ➊ {اِنْتَجْتَنِبُوْاكَبَآىِٕرَ …:} Major sins are those regarding which there is a clear warning of Hell in the Qur'an or Hadith, or where Allah's anger is expressed, or where a prescribed punishment has been set in the Shariah; and by { ”سَيِّئَاتٌ“ } is meant here the minor sins from which there is only prohibition and no warning has been mentioned. (Razi, Ibn Kathir) ➋ {نُكَفِّرْعَنْكُمْسَيِّاٰتِكُمْ: } That is, if you keep avoiding the major sins, We will forgive your minor sins because of your good deeds. In some narrations, a list of major sins is also mentioned, such as associating partners with Allah, unjustly killing a soul, gambling, drinking alcohol, and slandering chaste women, etc., but there is no fixed number for them; they can be from seven to seventy or even up to seven hundred, and some scholars have compiled the major sins in their books, those which are mentioned in the Qur'an or Hadith, such as Imam Dhahabi (rahimahullah)'s {”اَلْكَبَائِرُ“} and Imam Haythami (rahimahullah)'s { ’’اَلزَّوَاجِرُعَنِاقْتَرِافِالْكَبَائِرِ‘‘}.
