لَّيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلَآ أَمَانِىِّ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۗ مَن يَعْمَلْ سُوٓءًا يُجْزَ بِهِۦ وَلَا يَجِدْ لَهُۥ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيًّا وَلَا نَصِيرًا ﴿123﴾
It will not be in accordance with your desires (Muslims), nor those of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), whosoever works evil, will have the recompense thereof, and he will not find any protector or helper besides Allâh.

نَصِيرًۭا naṣīran any helper

(Ayah 123) ➊ { لَيْسَ بِاَمَانِيِّكُمْ … :} The People of the Book thought that they are special servants, that for the sins for which others will be seized, they will not be seized, their prophets will support them, they will stay in Hell for only a few days. (See Baqarah: 80) Only they will enter Paradise. (See Baqarah: 111) Nowadays, some naive Muslims also hold such beliefs about themselves, so Allah said that whoever does evil, whoever it may be, will be punished, no one’s support will benefit. Only if Allah Himself releases someone from His grasp, will he be released. One can draw an analogy from the calamities of the world.

{ مَنْ يَّعْمَلْ سُوْٓءًا يُّجْزَ بِهٖ …:} Wishful thinking and vain hopes cannot avert punishment, punishment will certainly be given, whether in this world or in the Hereafter. It is a different matter that Allah, due to repentance, or due to some good deed, or due to calamities that come in the world, may forgive. In summary, no one should think that someone will free him there by their own power: «{ وَ لَا يَجِدْ لَهٗ مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ وَلِيًّا وَّ لَا نَصِيْرًا “And he will not find for himself any friend or helper besides Allah.” Yes, Allah Himself may make the worldly hardships an expiation for him, or may pardon him due to his adherence to Tawheed and Sunnah, for He is the Owner and Controller.
