Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 71 to 74) ➊ { اِذْقَالَرَبُّكَلِلْمَلٰٓىِٕكَةِ… :} This is a mention of a discussion that took place in the exalted assembly regarding the creation of Adam (peace be upon him). Iblis was also present in this gathering along with the angels, and he too was commanded to prostrate before Adam (peace be upon him). For details, see Surah Al-A'raf (11). Mufassir Razi said: "The relevance of mentioning this story here in particular is that what prevented the disbelievers from believing in the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was their envy and arrogance. The reason for the curse upon Iblis was also his envy and arrogance towards Adam (peace be upon him), so this story was narrated to the disbelievers."
➋ The details of Allah Almighty creating Adam (peace be upon him) from clay, breathing His spirit into him, commanding the angels to prostrate before Adam, Iblis's refusal to prostrate, and the consequences thereof have already been mentioned in several places before. For example, see Surah Al-Baqarah (30 to 38), Al-Hijr (25 to 43), Al-A'raf (11 to 25), Bani Isra'il (61 to 65), Al-Kahf (50), and Surah Ta-Ha (116 to 123).
