سُوْرَةُ صٓ
Surah Saad (38) — Ayah 5
أَجَعَلَ ٱلْـَٔالِهَةَ إِلَـٰهًا وَٰحِدًا ۖ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَشَىْءٌ عُجَابٌ ﴿5﴾

"Has he made the âlihah (gods) (all) into One Ilâh (God - Allâh). Verily, this is a curious thing!"

(Ayah 5) ➊ { اَجَعَلَ الْاٰلِهَةَ اِلٰهًا وَّاحِدًا :} That is, how can it be that only "Allah" is running the entire system of the universe and He alone is worthy of worship? How is this possible? He has abolished all those deities and providers and helpers whom the world has been believing in.
➋ {اِنَّ هٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ عُجَابٌ:’’ عُجَابٌ ‘‘} is in the sense of "strange," but it carries more emphasis, just as a tall man is called "tawil," and if he is even taller, he is called "tuwal." In their view, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) inviting to the worship of one Allah was an extremely strange thing, because for them, anything contrary to what they had heard from their forefathers was extremely strange, as will be mentioned in their own words ahead. The belief in Tawheed seemed strange to these people, whereas the real object of wonder is the belief in Shirk, for which there is neither any rational proof nor any transmitted evidence.
