Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 4) ➊ {وَ عَجِبُوْۤا اَنْ جَآءَهُمْ مُّنْذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ :} That is, they are astonished at the fact that the one sent to warn and caution them is from their own species, a human, from their own nation, the Arabs, and from their own tribe, the Quraysh. Whereas, the real wonder would have been if an angel or a non-Arab had been sent to them. For details, see Surah Al-Imran (164), At-Tawbah (128), and the commentary of Surah Yunus (2).

➋ The meaning of {وَ قَالَ الْكٰفِرُوْنَ هٰذَا سٰحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ: ’’كَفَرَ يَكْفُرُ‘‘} is both denial and concealment. Here, instead of saying {’’وَقَالُوْا‘‘} (and they said), the phrase {’’ وَ قَالَ الْكٰفِرُوْنَ ‘‘} (and the disbelievers said) is used to indicate that these people calling the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) a magician and a liar is merely due to their concealing the truth and knowingly denying it, otherwise, they used to call him truthful and trustworthy. See Surah Yunus, Ayah (16): « فَقَدْ لَبِثْتُ فِيْكُمْ عُمُرًا مِّنْ قَبْلِهٖ» and the commentary of Surah Al-An'am (33).
