Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
And We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them without purpose! That is the consideration of those who disbelieve! Then woe to those who disbelieve (in Islâmic Monotheism) from the Fire!

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 27) ➊ {وَمَاخَلَقْنَاالسَّمَآءَوَالْاَرْضَوَمَابَيْنَهُمَابَاطِلًا:} In the previous verse, the real reason for following desires was stated as forgetting the Day of Reckoning. Now, several proofs of the truth of the Day of Reckoning are mentioned. The very first proof is that if a person entrusts even a small field to a servant, it is impossible that he would not question him about it. So how can it be that Allah Almighty created such magnificent heavens and earth and what is between them, then settled man on the earth and created everything in it for him, as He said: « هُوَالَّذِيْخَلَقَلَكُمْمَّافِيالْاَرْضِجَمِيْعًا»[ البقرۃ : ۲۹ ] "He is the One Who created for you all that is in the earth." He made the sky a roof for him, arranged for all his needs, and then would not question him about his performance. This would mean that all of this was created in vain and without purpose, and that all of this is merely a game that Allah is playing. No! All of you will certainly be presented before Allah Almighty. This is the very thing Allah Almighty has stated in several ways in the Noble Qur’an, as He said: « اَفَحَسِبْتُمْاَنَّمَاخَلَقْنٰكُمْعَبَثًاوَّاَنَّكُمْاِلَيْنَالَاتُرْجَعُوْنَ»[ المؤمنون : ۱۱۵ ] "Did you think that We created you without purpose and that you would not be returned to Us?" And He said: « وَمَاخَلَقْنَاالسَّمٰوٰتِوَالْاَرْضَوَمَابَيْنَهُمَالٰعِبِيْنَ (38) مَاخَلَقْنٰهُمَاۤاِلَّابِالْحَقِّوَلٰكِنَّاَكْثَرَهُمْلَايَعْلَمُوْنَ (39) اِنَّيَوْمَالْفَصْلِمِيْقَاتُهُمْاَجْمَعِيْنَ »[ الدخان : ۳۸ تا ۴۰ ] "And We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them while playing. We created them only in truth, but most of them do not know. Surely, the Day of Decision is the appointed time for all of them."
➋ {ذٰلِكَظَنُّالَّذِيْنَكَفَرُوْا :} That is, the thought that these heavens and earth and what is between them are vain and purposeless is the belief of those who deny monotheism and the Hereafter.
➌ { فَوَيْلٌلِّلَّذِيْنَكَفَرُوْامِنَالنَّارِ:} Here, instead of saying {’’فَوَيْلٌلَّهُمْ‘‘} (so woe to them), it is said {’’ فَوَيْلٌلِّلَّذِيْنَكَفَرُوْا ‘‘} (so for those who disbelieved, there is great destruction in the form of fire), meaning that the cause of this woe is the disbelief of these people.
