Surah As-Saaffaat (37) — Ayah 47
لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَ ﴿47﴾

The meaning of {لَا فِيْهَا غَوْلٌ وَّ لَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنْزَفُوْنَ : ’’ غَوْلٌ ‘‘} is harm, headache, stomach pain, and destruction. The meaning of {’’ يُنْزَفُوْنَ ‘‘ ’’نَزَفَ‘‘} (mujarrad) and {’’أَنْزَفَ‘‘} (mazeed fihi), both in active and passive forms, is the loss of intellect. Among the defects found in the wine of this world, its being unsightly, bad-tasting, and foul-smelling was already negated by {’’ بَيْضَآءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشّٰرِبِيْنَ ‘‘}, and now the negation of its other defects has also been stated. After drinking worldly wine, vomiting occurs, and in the form of hangover, there is pain in the head, stomach, and the whole body, which sometimes leads to destruction, and the intellect, which is the honor of a human, is lost. The wine of Paradise will be free from every such defect; there will be neither headache nor any other harm in it, nor will their intellect be affected because of it. However, the good qualities of wine, due to which people drink it despite so many harms, all those will be present in the highest degree, such as increasing appetite, bringing delight, and arousing strength and desire, etc.
