Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 146){ وَ اَنْۢبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّنْ يَّقْطِيْنٍ : ’’قَطَنَ بِالْمَكَانِ‘‘} (N) means to take up residence in a place. {’’ يَقْطِيْنٍ ‘‘} from this is on the pattern of {’’يَفْعِيْلٌ‘‘}. This word is used for every such plant that does not have a trunk, such as bottle gourd, cucumber, watermelon, and melon, etc. Mostly, the bottle gourd is called {’’ يَقْطِيْنٍ ‘‘}, because it remains lying on the ground. The word {’’ عَلَيْهِ ‘‘ } indicates that Allah Almighty miraculously raised the stem of this vine, which provided shade for Yunus (peace be upon him), or that vine climbed onto some other high thing and continued to provide him with shade and food.
