Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 144,143) ➊ {فَلَوْلَاۤاَنَّهٗكَانَمِنَالْمُسَبِّحِيْنَ… :} "If it had not been that he was of those who glorify Allah," this includes two things: first, that he was always among those who glorified and remembered Allah before this as well, and second, that even at that time he glorified Allah and said: « لَاۤاِلٰهَاِلَّاۤاَنْتَسُبْحٰنَكَاِنِّيْكُنْتُمِنَالظّٰلِمِيْنَ»[ الأنبیاء : ۸۷ ] "There is no deity except You; You are pure; indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers." If he had not been among those who glorify Allah, he would have died there and the belly of the fish would have become his grave.
➋ From this it is understood that just as Allah helps when called upon in times of distress, He takes even more care of those who glorify and remember Him in times of ease when they are in distress. In a long hadith narrated from Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), he said: I was riding behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a mount, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Boy! Shall I not teach you some words by which Allah will benefit you?" I said: "Why not!" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ اِحْفَظِاللّٰهَيَحْفَظْكَ،اِحْفَظِاللّٰهَتَجِدْهُأَمَامَكَ،تَعَرَّفْإِلَيْهِفِيالرَّخَاءِ،يَعْرِفْكَفِيالشِّدَّةِ ][مسند أحمد : 307/1، ح : ۲۸۰۷، قال المحقق حدیث صحیح ] "Be mindful of Allah, He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, you will find Him before you. Acquaint yourself with Him in times of ease, He will recognize you in times of hardship." Whoever does not believe and remember Allah in times of ease, his faith and supplication do not benefit him in times of hardship, as Pharaoh said when he was drowning: « اٰمَنْتُاَنَّهٗلَاۤاِلٰهَاِلَّاالَّذِيْۤاٰمَنَتْبِهٖبَنُوْۤااِسْرَآءِيْلَ»[ یونس : ۹۰ ] "I believe that there is no deity except that in whom the Children of Israel believe." So it was said to him: «آٰلْـٰٔنَوَقَدْعَصَيْتَقَبْلُوَكُنْتَمِنَالْمُفْسِدِيْنَ »[ یونس : ۹۱ ] "Now? While you had disobeyed before and were of the corrupters."
