سُوْرَةُ الصَّافَّاتِ
Surah As-Saaffaat (37) — Ayah 112
وَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِإِسْحَـٰقَ نَبِيًّا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ﴿112﴾

And We gave him the glad tidings of Ishâq (Isaac) - a Prophet from the righteous.

(Ayah 112) {وَ بَشَّرْنٰهُ بِاِسْحٰقَ نَبِيًّا مِّنَ الصّٰلِحِيْنَ :} The People of the Book say that the incident of the sacrifice did not happen with Isma'il (peace be upon him) but with Ishaq (peace be upon him). Some Muslim commentators have also said the same, but this is not correct, because here Allah Almighty, after mentioning the son received as a result of Ibrahim's (peace be upon him) prayer, mentions the glad tidings of Ishaq (peace be upon him) after the trial of the command to sacrifice. And it is agreed upon by both Muslims and the People of the Book that Isma'il (peace be upon him) was born first. Another very strong proof is that when the angels gave the glad tidings of Ishaq (peace be upon him) to Ibrahim's (peace be upon him) wife, they also said: «وَ مِنْ وَّرَآءِ اِسْحٰقَ يَعْقُوْبَ » [ ھود : ۷۱ ] that after Ishaq (peace be upon him), his son Ya'qub (peace be upon him) will come. It is clear that this cannot be the son who was to be commanded to be sacrificed as soon as he reached the age of running about, because regarding him, there was the glad tidings that he would live to such an age that he would grow up, get married, and have children. Besides this, in the Torah, the sacrifice of the only son is mentioned (see Genesis 22:2), and it is agreed upon by all that the only son was Isma'il (peace be upon him). Despite this, the People of the Book altered it and wrote Ishaq (peace be upon him) as the one to be sacrificed. Then, the fact that the ram's horns remained in the Ka'bah for a long time is also proof that this incident happened in Makkah. If this incident had been related to Ishaq (peace be upon him), it would have happened in the Levant, and would have had no connection to Makkah.
