وَمَن نُّعَمِّرْهُ نُنَكِّسْهُ فِى ٱلْخَلْقِ ۖ أَفَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ ﴿68﴾
And he whom We grant long life - We reverse him in creation (weakness after strength). Will they not then understand?
وَمَن waman And (he) whom

(Ayah 68) ➊ { وَ مَنْ نُّعَمِّرْهُ نُنَكِّسْهُ فِي الْخَلْقِ:} As a person’s youth fades, old age, weakness, and frailty come upon him, until he becomes weak again like a child and dependent on others for everything. Despite having a great mind, he forgets everything, as it is said: «اَللّٰهُ الَّذِيْ خَلَقَكُمْ مِّنْ ضُؔعْفٍ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِ ضُؔعْفٍ قُوَّةً ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِ قُوَّةٍ ضُؔعْفًا وَّ شَيْبَةً يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ وَ هُوَ الْعَلِيْمُ الْقَدِيْرُ » [ الروم : ۵۴ ] “Allah is the One who created you from weakness, then made strength after weakness, then made weakness and old age after strength. He creates what He wills, and He is the All-Knowing, All-Powerful.” And it is said: «ثُمَّ نُخْرِجُكُمْ طِفْلًا ثُمَّ لِتَبْلُغُوْۤا اَشُدَّكُمْ وَ مِنْكُمْ مَّنْ يُّتَوَفّٰى وَ مِنْكُمْ مَّنْ يُّرَدُّ اِلٰۤى اَرْذَلِ الْعُمُرِ لِكَيْلَا يَعْلَمَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِ عِلْمٍ شَيْـًٔا » [ الحج : ۵ ] “Then We bring you out as a child, then so that you may reach your maturity, and among you is he who is taken away (in death), and among you is he who is returned to the most abject age, so that after having knowledge, he knows nothing.”

{ اَفَلَا يَعْقِلُوْنَ: } The commentators, in connection with the previous verses, have explained this in two ways: one is that even after witnessing these transformations of life, these people do not understand that for the One who brings about these changes, resurrecting man and establishing the Day of Judgment is not at all difficult; rather, the Hereafter and the recompense of deeds are true. Shah Abdul Qadir writes: “That is, just as the boy was weak, the old man becomes the same; this too is a sign of being created again.” (Muwadhih) The second explanation is that still, do these people not understand that the Lord who gives life and reverses the form in old age is also able, after giving eyes, to take them away, and after granting good appearances, to disfigure them.
