Surah Yaseen (36) — Ayah 67

وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَمَسَخْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِهِمْ فَمَا ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مُضِيًّا وَلَا يَرْجِعُونَ ﴿67﴾
And if it had been Our Will, We could have transformed them (into animals or lifeless objects) in their places. Then they would have been unable to go forward (move about) nor they could have turned back.
وَلَوْ walaw And if
نَشَآءُ nashāu We willed
لَمَسَخْنَـٰهُمْ lamasakhnāhum surely, We (would have) transformed them
عَلَىٰ ʿalā in
مَكَانَتِهِمْ makānatihim their places
فَمَا famā then not
ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟ is'taṭāʿū they would have been able
مُضِيًّۭا muḍiyyan to proceed
وَلَا walā and not
يَرْجِعُونَ yarjiʿūna return

(Ayah 67) {وَ لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَمَسَخْنٰهُمْ عَلٰى مَكَانَتِهِمْ …:} The meaning of "maskh" is to change the form of a human into some other form, for example, to turn him into a monkey or a pig or a stone. {’’مَكَانَةٌ‘‘ ’’مَكَانٌ‘‘} is the feminine of (place) ({بُقْعَةٌ} with the interpretation), that is, and if We willed, We would transform them on that very piece of land (when they commit disbelief and polytheism), then neither would they be able to go forward nor return home (but We did not will this … ).
