Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 42){ وَخَلَقْنَالَهُمْمِّنْمِّثْلِهٖمَايَرْكَبُوْنَ :} From this it is understood that before this, mankind did not have the knowledge of building ships. Those who survived the flood through the ship built by Noah (peace be upon him) started the practice of building ships for sea travel, which progressed from ordinary boats to sailing ships, then engine-powered ships were invented, whose series has now reached aircraft carriers and submarines powered by atomic fuel. Let us see what else is invented in the future. Some commentators have taken the meaning of this verse to be that We have created for them other means of transport like the ship, for example, the camel which is called the ship of the desert, and similarly, motor vehicles, trains, airplanes, etc. Although this meaning is also possible, due to the mention of drowning in the next verse, it is better to take {’’ مِنْمِّثْلِهٖ ‘‘} to mean such means of transport that are used in sea travel, which also includes airplanes. For the prior mention of newly invented means of transport, see Surah An-Nahl (8).
