Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 15) ➊ By the definite article "al" coming on the predicate {يٰۤاَيُّهَاالنَّاسُاَنْتُمُالْفُقَرَآءُاِلَىاللّٰهِ … :} of {’’ الْفُقَرَآءُ ‘‘}, the meaning of exclusivity and emphasis is created, that O people! You alone are in need of Allah. Similarly, in {’’ وَاللّٰهُهُوَالْغَنِيُّالْحَمِيْدُ ‘‘}, by the separating pronoun {’’ هُوَ ‘‘} and the definite article on the predicate {’’ الْغَنِيُّ ‘‘}, the meaning of exclusivity is created, that only Allah is the One who is free of need, worthy of all praise.
➋ After stating that the Owner of the heavens and the earth is Allah Almighty, and those who are called upon besides Him can neither benefit nor protect from harm, not even owning a "qatmir" (the thin membrane on a date seed), now, as a summary and result of all the previous statements, it is said: O people! You alone are in every way in need of Allah Almighty, for your existence, your survival, and for every need of yours, so ask only from Him and worship only Him.
➌ { وَاللّٰهُهُوَالْغَنِيُّالْحَمِيْدُ :} That is, all others are needy, only Allah Almighty is free of need, not needing anyone. Along with "Ghani" (Free of need), "Hamid" (Worthy of praise) is mentioned because someone could be free of need but have no virtue or benefit to anyone. It is said, Allah is such a "Ghani" that He possesses all perfections and virtues, every blessing you and all creation have is granted by Him, therefore He alone is worthy of all praise and all thanks.
