Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 70) ➊ {يٰۤاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ وَ قُوْلُوْا قَوْلًا سَدِيْدًا : ’’سَدَّ يَسُدُّ‘‘} (n) To close, to fill, and {’’سَدَّ يَسَدُّ‘‘} (s, d) To be straight. {’’ سَدِيْدًا ‘‘} Straight, correct. {’’سَدَّدَ يُسَدِّدُ‘‘} (taf‘il) To make straight. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: [ قُلِ اللّٰهُمَّ اهْدِنِيْ وَسَدِّدْنِيْ وَاذْكُرْ بِالْهُدٰی هِدَايَتَكَ الطَّرِيْقَ وَالسَّدَادِ سَدَادَ السَّهْمِ ] [ مسلم، الذکر والدعاء، باب في الأدعیۃ : ۲۷۲۵ ] “Say like this: O Allah! Guide me and make me straight, and while praying for guidance, keep in mind going on the right path, and while praying for being made straight, keep in mind the straightening of an arrow.”

➋ In the previous verse, Muslims were forbidden from causing harm to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Harm only occurs when someone says something wrong and makes an accusation, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was accused of injustice in the distribution of wealth. Obviously, a person can only make false statements and accusations when he does not fear Allah. Therefore, after forbidding harm, now Allah commands to fear Him and to speak straight words.
