Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

The meaning of {وَ بَشِّرِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ بِاَنَّ لَهُمْ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ فَضْلًا كَبِيْرًا : ’’ فَضْلًا ‘‘} is increase, that is, superiority, as He said: «مَا هٰذَاۤ اِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُرِيْدُ اَنْ يَّتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ » [ المؤمنون : ۲۴ ] “He is nothing but a human being like you, who wishes to gain superiority over you.” That is, O Prophet! Give glad tidings to the believers that a very great superiority from Allah is about to be granted to them. The mention of the favor and superiority granted by Allah to the Muslims over the disbelievers is stated by Allah in Surah Ash-Shura: « تَرَى الظّٰلِمِيْنَ مُشْفِقِيْنَ مِمَّا كَسَبُوْا وَ هُوَ وَاقِعٌۢ بِهِمْ وَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ فِيْ رَوْضٰتِ الْجَنّٰتِ لَهُمْ مَّا يَشَآءُوْنَ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ ذٰلِكَ هُوَ الْفَضْلُ الْكَبِيْرُ » [ الشورٰی : ۲۲ ] “So you will see the wrongdoers fearful of what they have earned, while it is bound to befall them. But those who have believed and done righteous deeds will be in the gardens of Paradise; That is the great bounty.” And for the superiority of this Ummah over the believers of other nations, see the commentary of Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah (143) and Aal-e-Imran, Ayah (110).

In addition, the superiority of our Ummah over other nations is that Allah sent among us the Prophet who is the leader of the children of Adam, and just as He made you (peace be upon him) superior to all the Prophets, likewise He granted your Ummah superiority and excellence over other nations. Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: قَالُوْا لَا، قَالَ فَهُوَ فَضْلِيْ أُوْتِيْهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ] [بخاري، مواقیت الصلاۃ، باب من أدرک رکعۃ من العصر قبل الغروب : ۵۵۷ ] “The span of your existence compared to the previous nations is like the time between Asr and sunset. The people of the Torah were given the Torah, they worked until midday, then became weary, so each was given a qirat. Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel, they worked until the Asr prayer, then became weary, so each was given a qirat. Then we were given the Quran, so we worked until the sun set, so we were given two qirats each. The people of the two books said: ‘Our Lord! You gave them two qirats each and gave us one qirat each, even though we did more work?’ Allah said: ‘Did I withhold anything from your wages?’ They said: ‘No!’ He said: ‘Then this is My favor, I give it to whom I will.’”
