Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 24) ➊ { وَ جَعَلْنَا مِنْهُمْ اَىِٕمَّةً يَّهْدُوْنَ بِاَمْرِنَا :} And We made from among the Children of Israel some leaders and guides who directed people by Our command. Clearly, only those who possess knowledge can guide by Allah’s command. This includes the prophets of the Children of Israel, just as Allah Almighty said about Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (peace be upon them) before them: «{ وَ جَعَلْنٰهُمْ اَىِٕمَّةً يَّهْدُوْنَ بِاَمْرِنَا وَ اَوْحَيْنَاۤ اِلَيْهِمْ فِعْلَ الْخَيْرٰتِ وَ اِقَامَ الصَّلٰوةِ وَ اِيْتَآءَ الزَّكٰوةِ وَ كَانُوْا لَنَا عٰبِدِيْنَ [ الأنبیاء : ۷۳ ] “And We made them leaders who guided by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, the establishment of prayer, and the giving of zakah, and they were worshippers of Us alone.” And also the scholars of the Children of Israel who remained steadfast upon guidance and called people to that guidance according to Allah’s command. This guidance was Allah’s Book, and those who believed in it were of two types: one, those leaders who guided according to Allah’s command, and two, their followers who acted upon that guidance. The status of the first group is the highest after prophethood. It is said: «{ يَرْفَعِ اللّٰهُ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا مِنْكُمْ وَ الَّذِيْنَ اُوْتُوا الْعِلْمَ دَرَجٰتٍ [ المجادلۃ : ۱۱ ] “Allah will raise in degrees those of you who believe and those who have been given knowledge.”

{لَمَّا صَبَرُوْا وَ كَانُوْا بِاٰيٰتِنَا يُوْقِنُوْنَ :} That is, these leaders attained this position of leadership for two reasons: first, because of patience, as they bound themselves to the observance of Allah Almighty’s commands and refrained from what He forbade. They continued to call to Allah’s religion, strove for it, and endured every hardship that came in this path with patience. Second, because of certainty in Allah Almighty’s verses, as they were not those who slipped into worldly benefits and pleasures, but rather those who had certainty in Allah Almighty’s verses and His promises. From this, it is understood that the position of leadership can only be attained by those who are adorned with the qualities of patience and certainty in Allah Almighty’s verses.
