سُوْرَةُ الرُّوْمِ
Surah Ar-Room (30) — Ayah 46
وَمِنْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ أَن يُرْسِلَ ٱلرِّيَاحَ مُبَشِّرَٰتٍ وَلِيُذِيقَكُم مِّن رَّحْمَتِهِۦ وَلِتَجْرِىَ ٱلْفُلْكُ بِأَمْرِهِۦ وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ ﴿46﴾

And among His Signs is this, that He sends the winds as glad tidings, giving you a taste of His Mercy (i.e. rain), and that the ships may sail at His Command, and that you may seek of His Bounty, in order that you may be thankful.

(Ayah 46) {وَ مِنْ اٰيٰتِهٖۤ اَنْ يُّرْسِلَ الرِّيَاحَ مُبَشِّرٰتٍ … :} After mentioning that shirk is the cause of corruption on land and sea, Allah has mentioned as evidence of His oneness several things that everyone observes. Wherever the words {’’إِرْسَالُ الرِّيَاحِ‘‘} appear in the Quran (with the plural form of {رِيْحٌ}), they refer to pleasant winds. In this verse, two types of pleasant winds and their benefits are mentioned: one is the wind that brings the glad tidings of mercy in the form of rain, which removes dust and poisonous substances spread in the atmosphere, revives dead land, produces various crops, plants, and trees, and provides the basic necessity of water for all living beings. In short, many benefits are obtained. The second type is the favorable winds that help ships and boats travel from one place to another. In earlier times, sailing boats were common, whose movement depended mostly on favorable winds. Even today, in the era of engine-powered ships and boats, favorable and opposing winds still have a significant effect on them. It is said that these ships, which move with the help of favorable winds, are a means for you to seek Allah’s bounty, as they become an easy and inexpensive way to travel for seeking knowledge, trade, and other necessities. Then you transport thousands and millions of tons of commercial goods on these ships and earn great profits, and with these ships, you conquer countries. The things produced in one region are not limited to that area alone, but people all over the world benefit from them. Sending winds brings all these benefits, and also that you may give thanks to Allah for these blessings and, by accepting His oneness, worship Him alone.
