Surah Ar-Room (30) — Ayah 42

قُلْ سِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلُ ۚ كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّشْرِكِينَ ﴿42﴾
Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): "Travel in the land and see what was the end of those before (you)! Most of them were Mushrikûn (polytheists, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah)."
قُلْ qul Say
سِيرُوا۟ sīrū Travel
فِى in
ٱلْأَرْضِ l-arḍi the earth
فَٱنظُرُوا۟ fa-unẓurū and see
كَيْفَ kayfa how
كَانَ kāna was
عَـٰقِبَةُ ʿāqibatu (the) end
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (of) those who
مِن min (were) before
قَبْلُ ۚ qablu (were) before
كَانَ kāna Most of them were
أَكْثَرُهُم aktharuhum Most of them were
مُّشْرِكِينَ mush'rikīna polytheists

(Ayah 42) {قُلْ سِيْرُوْا فِي الْاَرْضِ … :} That is, the people of Nuh, ‘Ad and Thamud, the people of Shu‘ayb and the people of Lut, Pharaoh, Haman, and Qarun, etc. The destruction that befell the previous nations came as a result of this very shirk, from which you are being advised to abstain.
