Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 68) {اِنَّ اَوْلَى النَّاسِ بِاِبْرٰهِيْمَ …:} The meaning is that if you call Ibrahim (peace be upon him) a Jew or a Christian in the sense that his Shariah resembles your Shariah, then this too is incorrect, because after the followers of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), the closest to him are this Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and those who believe in him. In this regard, Muslims have more right than you to say that we are upon the way that Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was upon.
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: [ إِنَّ لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ وُلاَةً مِنَ النَّبِيِّيْنَ وَ إِنَّ وَلِيِّيْ أَبِيْ وَ خَلِيْلُ رَبِّيْ ] “Every prophet has some friends among the prophets with whom he has a special relationship, and my (special) friend is my father and the Khalil of my Lord.” Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) recited this verse.
