سُوْرَةُ اٰلِ عِمْرٰنَ
Surah Aal-i-Imraan (3) — Ayah 33
۞ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱصْطَفَىٰٓ ءَادَمَ وَنُوحًا وَءَالَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَءَالَ عِمْرَٰنَ عَلَى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ ﴿33﴾
Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Allâh chose Adam, Nûh (Noah), the family of Ibrâhîm (Abraham) and the family of ‘Imrân above the ‘Âlamîn (mankind and jinn) (of their times).

(Ayah 33){اِنَّ اللّٰهَ اصْطَفٰۤى …:} In the previous verses, the command to follow and obey the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has been given. Now, in this verse, it is being stated regarding the affirmation of his prophethood that the Prophet (peace be upon him) also belongs to that family of prophethood whom Allah Almighty has chosen (because he is from the descendants of Ibrahim). (Shawkani) There have been two personalities named Imran: one, the father of Musa and Harun (peace be upon them), and the other, the father of Maryam (peace be upon her). Most commentators have taken the second Imran here, because it is the story of his family (Maryam and Isa, peace be upon them) that is being narrated. (Ibn Kathir, Razi) Most likely, the name of this surah has also been given due to this story.
