And there are, certainly, among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), those who believe in Allâh and in that which has been revealed to you, and in that which has been revealed to them, humbling themselves before Allâh. They do not sell the Verses of Allâh for a little price, for them is a reward with their Lord. Surely, Allâh is Swift in account.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 199) {وَ اِنَّ مِنْ اَهْلِ الْكِتٰبِ … : } In this verse, mention is made of that group among the People of the Book (Jews and Christians) who sincerely became Muslims. By mentioning their faith and qualities of faith, Allah Almighty distinguished them from the other People of the Book, that these people believe in Allah Almighty, believe in the previous scriptures and the Noble Qur’an, are God-fearing, do not seek worldly gain in exchange for Allah’s verses, and for them their reward is secured with Allah, rather, they have a double reward, as is mentioned in Surah Al-Hadid (28). These qualities were very rare among the Jews. Among the Jewish scholars, only a few people like Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) possessed these qualities, whose number did not exceed ten. However, many among the Christians accepted faith, among whom was the king of Abyssinia, Ashamah Najashi. Upon receiving news of his death, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed his funeral prayer in absentia in Madinah.
